Sam Hassan CV
Summary
I’ve worked across the Australia and New Zealand market in a variety of presales roles for over 10 years, representing a range of vendors and technologies along the way. Currently I am working in the observability space, and have previously worked across traditional server and storage hardware, backup and replication, and hypervisor technologies. I enjoy being able to learn about new technologies and having the opportunity to educate others on things that I learn about.
Career History
Senior Technical Consultant - Observability at AC3
January 2026 - Present
I moved into the Observability team as a Senior Technical Consultant in a full-time capacity in January 2026, after a 6-month partial secondment from the AC3 presales team. Within this role I spearheaded the technical enablement and presales engagement for clients working with or looking to work with Datadog products. My role encompassed the full presales and postsales delivery process, including identifying leads and attending initial sales calls with sales specialists, proposal development and engagement sizing, delivery of proof-of-value and proof-of-concept demonstrations to customers and leading deployment engagements with the support of other staff for delivery to clients.
Outside of client-facing work, I developed an internal sample microservice for client demonstrations and for internal team development. This included implementation of monitoring, logs, Realtime User Monitoring (RUM), and tracing across nine microservices running on Python, Node.js and Express within a Kubernetes cluster. I also designed a customer pilot for a managed Datadog service to expand customer revenue share within existing clients.
During my time in this role I also attained my Datadog Fundamentals, Datadog Log Management Fundamentals, and Datadog APM and Distributed Tracing Fundamentals certifications.
Presales Engineer at AC3
July 2024 - January 2026
I joined AC3 as a presales engineer in July 2024. Within this role my primary responsibilities were the development of proposals and engagement pricing for clients, and the technical project oversight of committed projects during delivery in conjunction with the AC3 project manager. The engagements would vary from SMB through to enterprise engagements involving multiple service providers and technology vendors. I would also regularly work with the AC3 NSW commercial account teams and other internal delivery teams on account planning and presentation of proposals and low-level design documents to clients.
As AC3 represents multiple vendors and engages across both professional services and managed services offerings, these engagements would regularly span multiple vendors and technologies requiring coordination of both internal and external resources during the proposal development and delivery stages. Through this I would regularly engage with vendors and share knowledge internally within the presales team as well as present on new technologies and trends to clients as part of my engagements.
Cloud Practice Manager at fournines
July 2023 - June 2024
I joined fournines in the newly established role of Cloud Practice Manager to expand the commercialisation and development of their emerging Cloud Backup Service and Cloud Hosting Service.Within this role I worked with senior engineers to deploy a multi-region backup and recovery service within a private cloud environment, and with management to develop pricing. Once the service was generally available I assisted sales in the presentation of the service to clients, and implementing proof-of-concept demonstrations for customers transitioning to the service. I also worked with IT distribution channels to onboard the service for resale through the IT channel and provided technical enablement and training to channel partners across Australia. This resulted in several key client wins from larger competitors and a net-profitable service offering.
fournines is a channel-only organisation, all sales would be transacted through an existing partner base. This would in turn require enablement of channel partners on the offering and assisting with through-partner sales motions to jointly win new business.
Presales Technical Specialist at Rhipe, a Crayon Company
May 2022 - July 2023
I worked at Rhipe as a Presales Technical Specialist across multiple vendors represented by Rhipe, including VMware, Microsoft Azure, and Veeam to provide partner technical assistance and enablement across the Asia-Pacific region. Within this role I worked closely with account management teams to provide technical enablement and training to partners on various technologies, as well as onboarding support for customers as they worked with new services. I would also engage with vendors to develop technical enablement planning for each quarter based on key trends and product releases occurring in the market.
I worked with several clients on the productisation and development of new services using VMware and Veeam for their client base, providing architectural guidance and acting as a trusted advisor in how to set up pricing structure for clients as they moved from alternative products.
Presales Engineer at AC3
December 2021 - May 2022
I joined AC3 as a presales engineer in December 2021.
Presales Engineer at Vectec
August 2019 – December 2021
I was the first presales engineer hired at Vectec, providing support to sales staff in sales to medium enterprise across Australia. Within this role I acted as a customer voice to vendors regarding client needs and engaged with clients on the high-level design of datacenter expansions and refreshes. I would also work to keep the internal staff aware of key market trends and engage with vendor sales and technical staff on new product releases that would be relevant to our client base.
Vectec were a significant Cohesity partner and I would also work with Cohesity technical staff to assist in service implementations for new clients due to the small size of the in-country team at the time. These would include the initial configuration of Cohesity appliances and the subsequent handover and initial enablement of clients using the Cohesity solution in their business for the first time. VMware Solution Architect at Ingram Micro Australia November 2018 – August 2019
I moved to Australia to join Ingram Micro Australia as their VMware solution architect, supporting two business development managers. Within this role I would support the Ingram Micro team in creating and executing technical business planning for the VMware business unit, attend client meetings across Australia and present on updates and product releases from VMware to both virtual and in-person audiences of up to 50 people. I would also engage with clients on optimisation of customer license utilisation and introduction of new products into their client environments, both through presentations and hands-on enablement sessions with customer engineers.
VMware Pre-Sales Technical Specialist at Ingram Micro New Zealand
January 2017 – November 2018
I started at Ingram Micro in 2015 as a Storage Quote Specialist, providing specialised assistance to customers for Storage Area Network (SAN) deployments and migrations. In 2017 I was promoted to VMware Pre-Sales Technical Specialist, working with an aligned business development manager in promoting VMware within the NZ channel and providing customer enablement across the VMware product range. This involved both internal and external stakeholder management and presentations at events of up to 200 attendees.
While in this role I developed a 1-day hands-on lab for client engineers and provided on-site enablement training sessions for partners on VMware’s VSAN product, resulting in a 50% year-on-year growth in VSAN license sales within the region.
